The Smugglers cottage is considered to be one of the beauty spots of the county, parts dating back to the 15th century, when a ferry was operated across the river connecting the London to Penzance road. Since 1934 the Newman family has provided hospitality and good food and the 3rd generation of Newman's now run the Smugglers Cottage Ferry, the Cornish Belle. The cottage was requisitioned and the beach was built for embarking troops and equipment for D-Day. From May to October 10.30 - 20.30 enjoy freshly prepared lunches, cream teas, there is no better place to unwind than on the garden terraces with a local ale and and exclusive view of the Tregothnan Estate. Smugglers Cottage is also accessible from the water and has berths for visting boats.
